The IMAX Experience: The Best Way to See Movies on the BIG Screen.

Welcome to BoxOfficeSpy's page on IMAX. We'll give you all the information you need to know on this topic, including links for showtimes as well as a release schedule, all of which includes 3D information. Please note that the topic on this page will be sometimes be referred to as IT. We have done this to draw attention to it.

What is IT

It is a format in which motion pictures are shown and presented in movie theaters, and educational venues.

It is used to show movies using larger than average format, with the proper technology to not distort the image while producing a sharper screen image.

Not only does IT's presentations produce a far sharper image size and display resolution, but also uses a higher advanced and superior sound system than most traditional showings of a movie.

What does IT stand for?

It stands for Image MAXimum. It refers to the size in which movies are shown when formatted and presented by the Image Maximum corporation.

Who is "IT"?

IT is a Canadian company that was formed in 1967. It designs and manufactures IT's cameras and projectors. It also handles film production and distribution to movie theaters equipped with features and installations required to show IT.

The Corporation, headquartered jointly in New York City and Toronto, Canada, is one of the world's leading entertainment technology companies, specializing in immerse motion picture technologies.

What are the different Format Presentations?

IT is shown in three different formats and presentations.

1. IMAX Dome - Also known as OMNIMAX

2. IMAX 3D (3D Movies = Glasses Needed)

3. IMAX Digital (High Definition)

Where can I see IT?

IT's presentations are currently shown at 320 theaters in about 42 countries. According to the Corporation, 65 percent of the theaters are located in North America, while the remaining 35 percent are spread internationally.

More than 60% of the theaters are part of commercial theater complexes. The rest are located in institutional venues, such as museums and science centers.

A very large number of the theaters are equipped with 3D technology. IT's Digital projection system was just started in July, 2008. Because of this there are small number of digital projection systems in operation, about 50 locations.
