Weekend Movie Grosses for May 1-3, 2009

Two new movies entered theaters and the box office this weekend, "X-Men Origins Wolverine". , and "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past". It was already known "X-Men Origins Wolverine". would take the top boxoffice spot, it was just seeing how much it would make.

Predictions for the Wolverine Movie were quite varied, mainly due to the fact that analysts were unsure how the leak of the entire movie would affect its weekend gross. Wolverine, released by "Fox"., should end up towards the top of all time boxoffice grosses for "Comic Book Movies".

Ghosts of Girlfriend, the rom-com staring Matthew McConaughey, was clearly a counter genre releasing technique, which has been proven effective (The Dark Knight - Mamma Mia)(Superman Returns - The Devil Wears Prada). The movie was released by Warner Brothers.

Last week's number one movie at the boxoffice, "Obsessed" , released by Sony's Screen Gems and helmed by Beyonce Knowles, was thought to take a larger than normal drop, and place third at the boxoffice.

It was expected that the the rest of the top five box office spots in close competition with each other.
