Maybe Both. This movie news from Variety, says that the Coen Brothers are not looking to do an exact remake of the original (scene by scene). They want to make it something new, and different, they are said to return the content of the movie to the original Charles Portis novel,. The remake of True Grit have said to be in the works for quite awhile. It started at Spielberg's DreamWorks, but the project was abandoned Dreamworks left their partnership with Paramount.
