On Friday, New Moon officially passed the Domestic Box Office Total of the First Twilight movie. The Domestic box office gross of the first Twilight movie, was $193 million, which it took 147 days to accumulate. BREAKING: Sunday Update: This morning Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the Twilight Movies, released the estimated Twilight New Moon Box Office Gross for the weekend. Although the movie had steep drops on both Saturday and Sunday, following it's record breaking Friday gross, the movie still had a Huge opening, making $140.7 million during the three day weekend. New Moon's weekend gross of $140.7 is the third largest three-day box office opening in the history of cinema, successfully dethroning the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest $135.6 million 3-day gross. New Moon's weekend box office haul is just enormous, there are no words to describe just how gigantic it's opening really is. It should be mentioned that not only did Twilight New Moon have the third largest weekend box office gross ever, but it also has the smallest budget from the top twenty on the list of Biggest Opening Weekends. On Friday, Twilight New Moon also set the record for the biggest single day gross ever, with a huge $72.7 million, beating previous record holder, The Dark Knight, which grossed $67.1 Million. On Friday, Summit Entertainment's New Moon broke the all time record for a highest grossing opening day with $80 million. This fantastic gross cam from 4,024 theaters in North America on over 8,000 screens. These numbers are incredibly huge, especially when you consider that the previous record holder was The Dark Knight , with $67.1 Million, which it earned on the Friday it was released just a little over a year ago. It's amazing since most industry insiders and analysts thought The Dark Knight's box office records would go unchallenged, at least for a while. Yet, with these numbers, New Moon grossed $13 million more than The Dark Knight's previous record. They say they are selling 10 tickets per second for New Moon, and expect to continue to do so throughout the course of the day. It's first day per theater average was $15,384 at 4,366 theaters. New Moon had midnight showings at 3,514 locations, but a first day release at 4,024 locations. So if New Moon performed on line with The Dark Knight, It would gross a per theater avg. of over $27,000 for the day, and gross $96.6 million and that's just counting the 3,514, not even including the other 500 theaters it 's being shown at. Friday AM: Early Numbers for Twilight New Moon's Midnight Box Office Grosses are coming in from Summit Entertainment's rival movie studios of all places. The numbers are absolutely huge.According to the rival studios New Moon took in $23M-$24 Million from 12:01 AM screenings. If these numbers turn out to be correct when the actual numbers are released, it would successfully set the record for the Highest Ever Midnight Gross. It would also mean that New Moon made back half of it's $50 million production budget, and that's just from the United Sates and Canada. The previous best for a Thursday night / Friday Early morning gross was The Dark Knight's $18.4 million, which New Moon easily beat. The absolute best midnight box office gross on release on any given day, was Harry Potter 6, when it grossed $22.2 million from midnight showings.
